Update: the Pegaus arrived today, which was really neat. I can say I was really surprised to see that the matte display does not have the shiny black bevel rim around the display like the glossy display. So, the picture they show on the apple store for the unibody 17″ can be misleading, if you choose the anti-glare display.

Instead, it’s a matte silver bevel, the same color as the rest of the computer except for a black rubber-y rim that surrounds the entire screen. That part is a bit …. interesting. I’m not sure I actually like it. But, then again, maybe it will grow on me.

Why wait for Windows Vista when you can have the upgraded version? :) The above picture was taken outside of the Moscone Center West in San Francisco, CA. Heehee. Yay Apple. The original picture can be seen here.

So, after reading a blog post of a friend of mine, I noticed that he finally decided to get a Mac after years of PC usage. In fact, an exact quote from that blog is “So screw it. I’m getting a Mac. You PC dinosaurs can eat my dust.”

I’ve already lamented about the dilution of Apple culture through the iPod, but what really irks me is people who jump on the whole “get a Mac” bandwagon then act like they were right all along. They also act like they haven’t been using Windows for the past bazillion years.

As far as I’m concerned, you’re only allowed to badmouth Windows with full force if you meet one of the following criteria:

The first Apple product you owned wasn’t an iPod.

You ran Linux or Unix on your personal computer before getting a Mac.

You’ve owned an Apple computer since before OS X came out.

Otherwise, you’re just one of the bandwagon. :) And yeah, I know I sound like an Apple elitist. Sorry ’bout that.

The Apple Store on 5th Avenue had it’s Grand Opening two days ago. Of course, there are many other Apple Stores across the nation but this one is open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, and is really shiny. I just thought I’d put up some pictures of it (more info can be found on Apple’s website). I’ll have to remember to visit, next time I’m in New York City. Supposedly the plaza it is in has free Wi-Fi!

I was telling Spiff the other day I wish I still had my old Macintosh Performa, 6115CD. Why? He asked. “Geek cred” I said. The release of the new MacBook (not Pro) officially replaced the old iBooks. The market is clearly the young, hip students…the same market the iPod aims for. In one sentence, Apple says it all:

Introducing the superfast, blogging, podcasting, do-everything-out-of-the-box MacBook.

Who loves blogging and podcasting? Yes, geeks do but tweens and teens — they love it. Case and point: MySpace. The computer is shiny, small, glossy, and “cheap” (starting at $1099 — but really, you need ~$3000 for a good Apple laptop). Anyway, it has always been a little bit sad for me that the Apple community is no longer just eccentrics and loyalists, and is now populated but by preppies and stragglers that have finally decided to see the light.

Although part of me is happy Apple hasn’t gone out of business, part of of me is sad. It’s the end of an era.
